You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you meet all of the following requirements:
- You do not have access to private dental insurance.
- You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
- You have filed your most recent Canadian income tax return.
- Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.
Eligibility and coverage are determined by the Government of Canada. If you're unsure whether you qualify, our team can answer general questions and help you prepare for your first appointment once you're enrolled.
What Does the CDCP Cover?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan helps cover many medically necessary dental services that support your oral health.
Depending on your individual treatment needs, coverage may include:
- Dental examinations
- Professional cleanings
- Dental x-rays
- Tooth-coloured fillings
- Root canal treatment
- Gum disease treatment
- Dentures
- Tooth extractions
- Other eligible restorative and preventive services
Coverage is based on the CDCP benefits guide and established fee schedule. Some treatments may require preauthorization, and not every dental procedure is covered under the program.
If additional treatment is recommended, we'll explain your options and discuss your coverage before beginning care.
How Much Does the CDCP Pay?
The amount covered depends on your adjusted family net income.
Patients with lower household incomes may receive a higher level of coverage, while others may have a co-payment for eligible services. In some cases, if a dental office's fees are higher than the CDCP established fees, patients may also be responsible for the difference.
Before starting treatment, our team will provide a clear estimate and explain any out-of-pocket costs so there are no surprises.
Applying for the Canadian Dental Care Plan
Applications are completed through the Government of Canada. Most patients apply online through their My Service Canada Account (MSCA), although applications can also be completed by phone or at a Service Canada Centre.
Once your application has been approved, you’ll receive information about your coverage, including your effective date and any co-payment that applies.
When you’re ready to schedule your visit, simply let our office know that you’re covered under the CDCP, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Your First CDCP Appointment
At your first appointment, we’ll review your medical and dental history, verify your CDCP information, and complete a thorough examination of your oral health. If necessary, digital x-rays may be taken so we can accurately diagnose any concerns and recommend appropriate treatment.
If you’re experiencing tooth pain, swelling, or another dental emergency, we’ll always do our best to prioritize urgent care whenever possible.
Please bring your government-issued photo ID, your CDCP member information, and any documentation you’ve received regarding your coverage.
